Hardware I Use…

One of the more interesting things I think people can write about or tell others about is the tech they use on a daily basis.  An inventory of what they have purchased and use instead of a list of hot gadgets or latest tech they maybe don’t have yet.  I am interested in keeping up with what is the latest and greatest but I assume there are reasons why someone would not get the latest item in the tech space for what they actually use on a daily basis.

Here is what I use:

PC Machine

This is a custom built machine using the Fractal Design Arc Midi Black case with a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI | Sata 6Gb/s | USB 3.0 | ATX Motherboard.  I put in 16 GB’s of G.Skill Ripjaws X Series (4 x 4GB config) 240-PIN | DDR3 SDRAM | 1600 (PC3 12800) being driven by a Intel i5-2500 Sandy Bridge  3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 155 | 95W | Quad Core Processor.  Powered by a Cooler Master Silent Pro M600 | Single 12v Rail | 600watt | 80 PLUS Bronze Certified.

Monitors/Stand

Samsung 24″ P2450 (on the left) and Samsung SyncMaster 22″ 220wm (on the right) which is all held by a EasyMountLCD free standing VESA arm.

External Enclosures

External to the main machine I have a ioSafe 1.5TB that I won on The Home Server Show 100th show giveaway.   (Thanks Dave, Jim and John)  I use this awesome fireproof, destruction proof and water proof external enclosure drive as my local backup drive for my entire system.  I also have a Media Sonic 4-bay enclosure that hosts all of my additional non-primary hard drives attached to the main machine via eSata.

Web Cam

I use the LogiTech QuickCam Orbit AF for all of my video capture needs and seems to do a great job when I am on The Average Guy Podcast over at TheAverageGuy.tv

Headphones/Stand/Speakers

I have the Razer Carcharias headphones w/ a great microphone that hang nicely from a banana hanger from Crate & Barrel which appears to be discontinued.  When I am not using my headphones I run audio through my View Sonic 2.1 SP2104 speakers.

Keyboard/Mouse

I am using the Microsoft Comfort Keyboard 5000 and I use a variety of mice.  My primary is the Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 but I also heavily use the Microsoft Touch Mouse and occasional use LogiTech’s TouchPad T650 (which does not currently have a gesture to close a “Metro” application) and last I have a Microsoft Mobile Mouse 6000.

Thermostat

I use the Nest Learning Thermostat and love the functionality of this device.  The story behind the Nest idea is great and this hardware is the most talked about item in the house when friends and family are visiting.

The Nest is working great. The latest software update has added a nice deal of additional features to the already great thermostat. I look forward to covering some of the latest updates on The Home Tech Podcast Jan 3rd of 2013.
